CCR5 Antagonists

What is a CCR5 receptor antagonist?

CCR5 refers to the protein present on the white blood cells in the human blood that act as a receptor in the immune system and allow it to work properly. In the case of the HIV attack, the protein helps the immune system to fight against the infection and prevent its multiplication.

It is a receptor antagonist that blocks the virus and stop its entrance into the T-cells. Moreover, the combination of the drugs helps to slow down the HIV disease from the spread and to avoid future complications.

What does CCR5 do?

HIV contains the CCR5 receptors that help to enter into the blood cells and attack T-cells to slow down the immune system function. With the use of the CCR5 receptor antagonist, it is easier to stop the HIV entrance into T-cells and slow down its attack. It helps to block the multiplication of the infection to deal with the complication.

It directly blocks the CCR5 surface enzyme to stop entering the HIV inside the immune system and secure the ability to fight against the infection and its spread.
