NNRTIs
What are NNRTIs (non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors)?
The availability of antiretroviral drugs opened great chances for individuals to live a normal, quality life amidst the malicious effects of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). These drugs are given depending on the individuals’ health condition and the type of treatment they need. NNRTIs are regarded as non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, which are proven efficient in inhibiting HIV’s replication process and boost the body’s immune system to function better. This group of medicines are also recognized as the primary drugs in providing medical therapy to those who are going through HIV’s malignant effects.
How does NNRTIs function?
Aside from its infectious function, HIV overwhelms the body’s immunity and causes it to fail. This damage alone is enough for the infection to grow and trigger other diseases, which can be hostile and severe. Without the consumption of antiretroviral drugs, it will be very difficult for the treatment to advance.
NNRTIs work by eliminating the viruses’ virulent function towards the body. Commonly, in line with antiretroviral therapy, some of the drugs under NNRTIs need to pair with NRTIs to get effective and better results during the treatment process. However, an individual cannot consume it without the proper dosage provided by the medical specialist.
