Description

What is Edurant (Rilpivirine)?

Acting as an antiretroviral medicine, Edurant assists people who have HIV. Since there is still no cure for the infection, Edurant can be used as therapy. This medication is available for patients 12 years old and above. Its generic name is Rilpivirine.

How does Edurant work?

As a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTIs), Edurant works by interrupting the spread of HIV in the body. It halts the function of an enzyme that the virus makes use of in its reproduction.  Aside from giving HIV a fight, it also boosts the body’s immune system. It diminishes the volume of viral load in the body. Additionally, Edurant helps prevent AIDS from developing.

Dosage

The guidelines for prescribing Edurant include the following:

• The patient’s age
• The patient’s weight
• The underlying medical concerns the patients might be having
• The other forms of medication that the patient might be taking

Adult Dosage

• One tablet a day – 25 mg for adults 12 years old and above

How to take it?

Consuming this medication as prescribed by your doctor is always a prerequisite. The dosage is taken with a meal, observing its frequency at one tablet a day. Skipping doses will only make the treatment fail, so avoid this. Set a reminder so you get notified of the time that you’ll be taking Edurant. Since it will be consumed with food, you will not have a hard time taking it. Act in accordance with the doctor’s prescription.

Rilpivirine Side Effects

Like any medication, Edurant can have side effects. These adverse reactions have limitations in terms of how long they last. However, if the side effects last longer than anticipated, consult with your physician immediately.

Mild Side Effects: 

• Dizziness
• Headache
• Difficulty sleeping
• Drowsiness
• Concentration problem
• Abdominal pain
• Nausea

Severe Side Effects:

• Unexplained Anger
• Severe rash
• Difficulty moving 
• Difficulty breathing
• Numbness or tingling sensations in the limbs
• Irregular heartbeat
• Severe dizziness 
• Depression / Anxiety

Storage

Store Edurant in a warm, dry place but away from direct sunlight. Place it inside a container, to keep if safe from children or animals. If the medicine has expired, throw it away at once.
