Controlling HIV is now made possible by Retrovir, an ART (antiretroviral therapy) with beneficial results to the body. It’s recognized as one of the ARTs that clearly treats the illness while also boosting our immunity against infections. Doctors prescribe this medicine regardless of gender. Its main use is for pregnant women with HIV, as it can help prevent the virus from spreading to their babies. Since HIV is spread through blood, Retrovir ensures this does not happen during pregnancy. Retrovir is the brand name of Zidovudine, also available under the name Zidovir. Retrovir comes in the form of 100 mg or 300 mg tablets.
How does Retrovir work?
Retrovir is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI), and works by inhibiting the virus from replicating itself. The infectious element of HIV is impeded, reducing its capacity to increase its number. Retrovir also helps promote the body’s immune system, allowing it to protect us even more from other infections.
