What is Videx EC (Didanosine)?

How does Videx EC work?

Classified among nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), Videx is also capable of reducing the volume of the virus inside its host. Its blocking capacity is its main function as it interferes with the activity of HIV. As an NRTI, Videx has been working as a reversing component that terminates the virus as much as possible.

Dosage

In conjunction with other antiretroviral medicine, Videx’s dosage depends on the following:

• An individual’s current age
• An individual’s current body weight
• His/her medical conditions prior to HIV

Infant Dosage

• 100 mg 
• To be taken twice per day
• Primarily for infants on their 2 weeks to 8 months of existence

Adult Dosage

• 125 mg, other dosage includes 250 mg but only once to take
• To be taken twice per day

How to take it?

Consume the capsule as set by your physician. It is usually done after eating your meal. The dosage is required to be taken as prescribed. This means that when taking it, it must be in line with what the doctor said. In the event where you miss one dose for that day, avoid taking it if it’s already time for your next dosage. As much as possible, prevent two doses at one time.

Didanosine Side Effects

Mild Side Effects:

• Diarrhea

Severe Side Effects: 

• Vision Problems 
• Difficulty breathing or swallowing
