What is Zerit (Stavudine)?

When combined with other types of ART medications, this medicine is able to treat HIV. Produced in the form of capsules, Zerit comes in two strengths: 30mg and 40mg. Zerit is the brand name of Stavudine.

How does Zerit work?

Recognized as a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI), this medicine is capable of stopping the workings of HIV. It diminishes the number of viruses that is active in the person’s blood. Additionally, Zerit also acts by hindering the virus’ ability to replicate.  Furthermore, it deters AIDS from emerging.

Dosage

Indicated in a prescription is the accurate dosage while also observing the following:

• A patients’ age and bodyweight
• Other health conditions that he/she are having
• Other kinds of medicines he/she are taking

Adult Dosage

• 50 mg or 80 mg - to be consumed daily
• Patients who weigh 60 kgs

Newborn Dosage

• 0.5 mg

Children Dosage

• 1 mg per day

How to take it?
