Vonaday: Uses, Dosage, and Side Effects

Since the introduction of antiretroviral therapy, treating HIV has become easier. Although the infection is still life-threatening, the usage of HIV medications can help infected people live longer, similar to undiagnosed individuals. In other words, these treatments give HIV-positive people another chance to live healthily. One of these medications is known as Vonaday.

What is Vonaday?

Vonaday is a prescription medicine used to treat one of the world’s most incurable and serious infections – HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). It is a combination of three major anti-HIV agents, such as lamivudine, efavirenz, and tenofovir disoproxil. This medicine works by boosting the body’s immune system, helping fight against the infection, and preventing the development of AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome).

Vonaday is a part of an HIV treatment program called antiretroviral therapy. It involves the use of combination drugs to make treatment easier for people. Compared to traditional HIV treatment, this approach only observes the consumption of one pill daily.

As mentioned, Vonaday is a combination of three active ingredients. They belong to different types of drug classifications:

Lamivudine – Nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs)

Efavirenz – Non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs)

Tenofovir disoproxil – Nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs)

NRTIs work by blocking a certain enzyme that HIV uses to replicate. On the other hand, NNRTIs function by binding on an enzyme, the same protein that the virus uses to make more copies of itself. This process reverses HIV’s capacity to grow its population within the body. The combination of these drugs help prevents viral growth and inhibits the development of the infection’s associated complications.
