What is the CDC?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is a U.S. federal government agency under the Department of Health and Human Services, whose primary goal is to provide public health and safety protection by controlling and preventing injury, disease, and disability in the United States and worldwide. The CDC works to implement the following factors:

 

  • Promoting healthy behaviors and safe, healthy environments
  • Keeping track of health trends
  • Responding to new public health threats
  • Focusing on infectious disease, food-borne pathogens, and injury prevention
  • Designing educational activities for health improvement
  • Conducting research for non-infectious diseases

 

Late in the year 2019, the CDC focused their studies on the emergence of COVID-19. It wasn’t until early 2020 that the infection affected every nation worldwide, and global quarantine guidelines were implemented. The following are the CDC quarantine guidelines, which help control the disease and prevent further virus spread.

 

Individuals exposed to someone with COVID-19:

 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention no longer recommends quarantine for the general public. However, the following steps are essential for people with high-risk exposures:

 

All people with high-risk exposure:

 

–          Have been boosted

 

OR

 

Completed vaccination within the last 6            months or regardless of vaccination status

 

 

–          Wear a high-quality mask when indoors, especially in travelling (for 10 full days).

–          Monitor for symptoms.

–          Stay home if you develop COVID-19 symptoms.

–          Get tested after 5 full days after exposure to the virus.

 

–          If unable to wear a mask

 

OR

 

Unvaccinated

 

–          Avoid transmission for 10 full days.

–          Improve house ventilation.

–          Test on day 5 if possible.

–          Stay home if you develop COVID-19 symptoms.

 

In terms of the CDC’s masking guidelines, the agency changed its position on the mandatory use of masks, especially in areas without high transmission. Consider the guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

 

 

 

At All Covid-19 Community Levels

–          Facemasks are recommended in indoor public transportation. States authorities are also entitled to make their own regulations for masking in public; however, people are not required to wear masks all the time.
 

 

Medium or High

–          For people with a high risk of getting sick, always wear a mask or respirator.

–          If exposed to someone with a high risk of getting sick, consider self-testing and wearing a mask when in contact with them.

High –          Wear a mask or respirator.

–          Avoid activities where exposure is high.

 

Aside from the masking and quarantine basis for the said infection, the agency also structured its isolation directives. The following information refers to CDC isolation guidelines:

 

When to isolate?

 

  • You should isolate yourself if you have COVID-19.
  • Isolate yourself if you suspect having COVID-19, even if you do not have test results yet. If the result is positive, you will need to adhere to the following isolation recommendations. However, if the result is negative, end your isolation right away.

 

 

If symptomatic

–          The onset of symptoms is Day 0.

–          After the start of your symptoms is considered Day 1.

–          A total of 5 days for isolation.

If asymptomatic –          The day you are tested is Day 0.

–          The day after you tested is Day 1.

–          If you develop symptoms of COVID-19, your isolation days restart immediately.

 

Isolation ends after 5 days. However, only end it based on how severe your symptoms are. You also need to get tested. Your test result should also be negative before ending isolation.
